The cherries are ripe and the currants are right behind them!
We have a very limited supply of sour cherries left, if you would like some, please call the farm right away to place an order (250-652-5227).
We have sweet cherries available almost daily while supplies last – if you’re in the area look for our white and red cherry signs.
We will also begin picking currants this weekend (if all goes according to plan) and will have some fresh berries Saturday at the Peninsula Country Market.
It won’t be too long now, we’re starting to see some colour on the berries, especially the cherries! The cherries will likely be ready in early July and the currants are on track for mid-July. If you’d like to place an order for fresh fruit, please call the farm at 250-652-5227.
Andrew has the BEST strawberries on the Saanich Peninsula and these beauties are ready! You can find them at our second location (Andrew’s patch) at 6469 Welch Road in Central Saanich.
Pamela Fox comes from a farming family that has a long history on the Saanich Peninsula. Her grandparents came over from England in the early 1900s and loved the area so much, they soon brought over their parents, Pamela’s great-grandparents.
They had a dairy farm near Butchart Garden’s and before that, milked Jersey cows in the Mt. Newton Valley at Lawrence Hagan Farm – what is now known as Woodwyn Farm.
Pamela’s father, Stan Fox, eventually took over the farm and delivered milk all over Greater Victoria. In 1961, he started growing sweet corn, eventually producing enough for every man, woman and child on Vancouver Island.
Pamela was able to purchase land in the Mt. Newton Valley on Hovey Road, which was part of the farm her grandparents named Silver Rill.
Her father suggested she grow something different and she drew on her British roots to start growing currants and gooseberries. Pamela has four brothers that also operate their own farms.
